Exclusive ideas for an affordable holiday

One of the reasons why most people don’t go for vacations is because they have a mentality that going out for holidays is expensive and it is an activity only practical to the rich in the society. In real sense, vacations are very much affordable especially in East Africa. With me are a few ideas you can explore for unique affordable vacations

Joining up forces

This simply means you form a team of people and together raise a certain amount of money that will be enough for you to comfortably spend then go out together on a vacation. Not only will you have managed to easily come up with the finances needed but the more the people you experience holidays together with the more fun it becomes.

Saving up for a vacation

Saving is usually one of the best way to achieve something financially that you couldn’t at once. You can open up a savings account or just save in your own way till you are able to reach the particular amount of money that you need. Saving however requires a lot of self-discipline in order to achieve the intended goal.

Visit places that are pocket friendly

Go on a multi-billion dollar get away only if you can afford it. There is no point of going out and having fun only to come back and start battling with debts. The pressure you will get trying to settle your arrears will council out the relaxation you got. You can never miss something that is affordable and friendly to your pockets.

Research on the various companies offering affordable travel insurance instead of using thousands of dollars purchasing one yet there was a cheaper option.

Spend when it is necessary

Who said you have to pay for a very expensive hotel in order to visit the beach or have a taste of the tasty cuisine they have? There are public beaches which you can visit free of charge. You can also Google the recipes the chiefs in those luxurious hotels use and prepare your self-something mouthwatering.

Come up with your own vacation plans

This basically means come up with your own way of enjoying your holiday. You don’t have to visit the most expensive hotels or the most popular sites in East Africa to call it a vacation. Rather, you can call your family and friends for barbecue, relax and have fun. Come up with games to play or go watch an interesting movie at the cinema.

Use your holiday as an opportunity to give back to the society

Do the unexpected, be unique. Everyone will run to the beach, go visit wild animals, visit some amazing sceneries etc but won’t remember the less privileged in the society. You can choose to use the little you Have and make your vacation unique. Go visit the elderly, orphans or prisoners, interact with them and have fun. This will be relaxing and a source of joy not only to you but those you show kindness to as well.

Don’t choose to do what everyone does for their holidays. Be distinct and find other means to enjoy, relax and have a good time. Remember that u can have an amazing vacation without having to spend billions of dollar; work with what is pocket friendly to you.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR VACATION

You don’t want to go on a trip to relax and enjoy yourself only for you to get so bored that you can’t wait to get back home. Your vacation may end with you not having achieved what you intended or things may completely not go your way. Here are a few tips that will help you be able to make the most out of your vacation.

Know what kind of vacation works for you

Why go to the wild if you have a phobia of wild animals or to the mountains if you get health complications when exposed to cold weathers? The first step to enjoy your vacation is to learn what works for you.

Plan in advance

Planning for your trip is very important. You should know how much money you will be comfortable spending, what kind of climate you want to spend your holiday in, the specific luxury hotel that meets your needs, the type of activities you’re planning on doing, where to purchase a travel insurance etc. Failure to plan may really mess you up. You may end up staying in a hotel that completely displeased you or in a location that you are completely uncomfortable in. So be wise and take time to plan.

Make your bookings in Advance

You don’t want to postpone your recess just because you couldn’t get a plane or a bus at the time you wanted or get the hotel of your choice. If possible make all your payments from your mode of transport, food, accommodation etc, in advance to avoid delays or disappointment.

Keep away from things that stress you

Holidays are meant to detox you from stress and this will only be possible if you keep away from things and people that pressure you. No matter how costly your tour destination is, you will not enjoy it neither get the relaxation you need if you choose to hold on to things that pressure you.

 Do your research

Do not go to places you know completely nothing about. Before visiting a place make sure you know the type of climate to expect, the activities you can do while there, how safe is the place etc. For example you don’t want to find yourself in a sunny remote place in the wild yet you didn’t carry sunscreen with you. You may end up being forced to stay indoors and have a hot boring holiday.

These are just but a few major factors that you should put into consideration when planning to take some time off to your preferred destination. Your ignorance and attitude are the only things that may turn your long awaited fun vacation to a boring one. Play your role well when preparing to go on a trip and if things don’t turn out as expected, try make the best out of it.

Tips on planning a Safari to East Africa

Travelers spend months, probably some years planning a safari to Africa and to be more specific to East Africa all in the hopes of an amazing experience. And you know what? It is. There is simply nothing like sitting in a 4×4 jeep in the middle of a park, a few feet from dozens of graceful giraffes searching for leaves and the sounds of other unknown animals in the distance. This cannot be replicated in any way, it is just something you have to experience for yourself.

Well, it doesn’t have to cost you thousands of dollars for you to afford a trip to East Africa, have fun and at the same time a transformative trip. So, I decided to share my own East African safari tips to ensure that travelers don’t end up spending more dollars and ending up chewed by mosquitoes.

  1. Be prepared

Going on a safari involves a lot of panning and saving and because of that you expect to get a lot out of your experience. You don’t have to spend so much money for a safari, all you need to do is research on the various packages different companies offer. Where to get a travel insurance for a good rate and all other things that may sound like necessities while on a safari in East Africa. When travelers are going for a safari, their expectations are high and they end up buying things they don’t need. Of course, you may need to bring some extra items just in case but don’t go overboard.

  1. Enquire about the hotel’s operation

Enquire about any rationing when you arrive so that you can plan accordingly. I learnt this the hard way when I planned to spend a relaxing day in a camp, taking a late shower and doing some journal writing in the tent. However, after a morning filled with activity, I returned to our tent to find there was no hot water and no electricity. Once I enquired from the front desk, it was only then that they explained the hours to me.

  1. The big five

Taking  a trip to Africa is a once in a lifetime thing and what we end up doing is putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to have a perfect experience. Well, in as much such we may have all that pressure, it is important to relax as well. We all expect to see the big five and once we land in Africa, we want to see them at once. What you need to know is that seeing the big five depends on nature, the fact is that you are out amongst nature, not Disney world and nature is unpredictable. Once you fail to spot a big five, don’t get angry. Just accept it as part of the experience. I know that sucks right? But hey! Trust me the experience is one to die for.

  1. Enjoy the experience

Make every hour of your trip memorable, you can’t afford not to have an amazing time. Make memories using your camera and your head, don’t ask how but I am pretty sure you will be able to do that. If you ever had any doubts which I can’t imagine you have, an African safari should be at the very top of your bucket list.

Destination Tanzania

Tanzania was voted the best safari country in Africa according to a recent poll that was conducted a few months ago. The poll crowned the East African country the king of safaris. Anyone looking for a place to go, Tanzania should be your holiday destination number one choice. Kenya offers chances to see big cats but you’d be best off selecting Tanzania, according to a recent poll. Tanzania is home to major tourists attractions from Serengeti National park to Ngorongoro crater. Let’s take a look at some of the most epic places to pay a visit.

Nothing compares to seeing hundreds of wildebeest thundering by in unison across the plains. It brings a great feeling of appreciating nature and what the Supreme Being can do, in short it is just the experience.

Ngorongoro crater

At 16 kilometers in diameter and walls sweeping up some 700 metres, the crater offers a picture perfect backdrop to its wildlife residents. Picnic in the Ngorongoro crater, a home to 30,000 animals including the big fives. This world heritage site offers 100 square miles of stunning beauty, densely packed game in the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Aha! Not a bad spot for a burger.

 Mt Kilimanjaro

Well, you can imagine climbing the tallest mountain and the highest free standing in Africa. How epic would that be? It’s on the Tanzania side and, while it’s an epic feat endurance, you can reach the summit of the mountain without any technical training. It would only cost you some smart planning, a top notch climb team and an iron will to reach the roof of Africa.

The warm climatic condition, the blue ocean with rhythmic waves and white sandy beaches is just what you need to treat your body and relax your mind. The west of the shores of Lake Tanganyika and the mountain slopes of the Mahale National Park are home to one of the world’s most famous habituated groups of chimpanzees and for many, seeing our closest ancestors in the wild equates to a pretty much spiritual experience.

It is with no doubt that everyone should have Tanzania in their travel bucket list. I will leave my readers with that as we figure out our next destination in East Africa.

African Safari

Today I am a bit excited as I write this blog. First it’s because I bumped into a longtime friend who we share a great history of our childhood moments. She later moved to the States with her parents and recently she came to tour her motherland and she was trying to explain her experience to me. Therefore, I am going to share her experience here because for a second it made me appreciate the fact that I am an African. Well, for lack of better words, it gave me a sense of belonging.

I believe that almost everyone from overseas who has done a tour to East Africa will tell you how great it was and all great experiences that come with East Africa. This is because Africa is renowned for being wild, authentic, spectacular and rugged and here is my friend’s story who kept wondering if it would live up to her expectations. She left Africa when she was 6, therefore Africa sounded so new to her.Her name is Maxwell and she went on a safari to Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.

She decided to start describing the game viewing as according to her it was the most exciting moment of her tour. “Never would I imagine seeing so many animals in such a short period of time. In Rwanda we hiked deep into the forest to spend time with a Gorilla family – a Silverback, mature males and females, juveniles and babies! Watching these primates interact with each other and recognize us as friendly visitors truly made me believe in evolution.

We also trekked to see the Monkeys, an experience that filled me with the joy of a child. Watching these small monkeys swing, play, flight, feed and run through the jungle in their natural habitat was thrilling.

Then there was Serengeti– within less than an hour of arriving at the reserve we had seen, heard of zebras, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, hippos and more! On an early morning game drive we saw a cheetah devouring its prey. We watched three, yes three leopards, a mother and her cubs feeding on a Thompson Gazelle in a tree. We watched as a lioness hunted down a warthog just as a snack.

That afternoon we spent watching a pride of lions walking for their evening hunt. We saw hyenas, which later that night, uninvited, visited our camp site. Then the very next morning we quietly observed a pride of lioness stalk a herd of buffalo and later spotted two male lions watching on the other side of the herd in wait.

In Ngorongoro crater we counted seeing nearly all the same animals again in one day. In Lake Nakuru we spotted Rhinos! We watched as a giraffe casually walked the length of the local air strip and our group followed a lioness and her three cubs as they started their evening hunt. In Lake Naivasha we walked, yes walked, with zebras, gazelles and more. We motored a boat past hippos and flamingos.

And the Maasai Mara had been just amazing, we saw beautiful herds of hoofed animals. We watched a pregnant cheetah finding a place to rest. What you would enjoy most is meeting the East African people”. Most are the times when you would get to learn of travel advisories against travelling to most parts of Africa. Unfortunately, these days terrorism is something that can happen anywhere and to anyone, if I can put it better it is a worldwide concern as we sadly see time and again.

The East African people are friendly, welcoming and respectful. They work together towards a brighter future and what will shock you is the Rwandese knowledge of ecotourism. East Africa is a place that anyone would most definitely feel safe throughout their travel.
